At the recent PRSA National Assembly in Orlando, Florida the delegates approved a $30 dues increase (by a 209-53 margin) to address the financial challenges the organization is facing. West Michigan PRSA Chapter members should know that their board voted "no" on the increase as we believed the additional cost was a hardship members should not have to bear, and that PRSA National should instead reduce its expenses. Fiske detailing the new benefits members will receive as a result of the increase:
Our 2011 Leadership Assembly and International Conference provided an opportunity to review our work this year, as well as to preview 2012 for the Society. As you may have already read, the Assembly passed a proposal by the board to increase member dues by $30, for the first time in 10 years, effective January 1. At the same time, we'll be expanding our benefits for next year to include new features, such as:
- Free Webinars with PRSA membership. PRSA will offer its entire catalogue of professional development webinars to its members — for free — starting in 2012. This represents nearly $2,000 in annual savings for members who currently participate in one PRSA webinar per month.
- Expanded focus on Chapter support. PRSA is developing webinars and material exclusively for Chapter use to create customized local professional development offerings.
- Loyalty programs to reward PRSA’s most-involved members. These initiatives will result in significant benefits for loyal and active members.
- Creation of the PRServing America™ award program. This program will highlight the pro bono work undertaken by PRSA’s professional and student Chapters, Sections and Districts to strengthen and preserve the local communities in which they live and work.

Our revamped insurance program provides our members with preferred rates from GEICO for auto and Marsh U.S. Consumer for other lines of insurance. Our partnerships and professional affiliations with third-party vendors continue to produce real savings for our members.
The PRSA Advocacy program champions the public relations industry to the public. Our responses to relevant, breaking issues have been published in The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, among many others.
The new design of our PRSA Jobcenter has received acclaim. PRSA is proud of being the target destination for communications employers and job-seekers.
